Hit 50 backyard birdhouses built last weekend

Started this as a COVID hobby. Now I've got 50 birdhouses spread across my yard and the neighbor's. Is it a cool collection or am I just hoarding for the birds?

Oh man, 50 birdhouses? That's not a cool collection, that's a full-on bird apartment complex. You've basically turned your yard into a feathered housing project with no HOA and zero rent control. I bet your neighbors love staring at 50 little wooden boxes every time they look out their window. At some point the birds stop being grateful and start expecting better amenities, you know? Like next you'll need a tiny swimming pool and a seed delivery service. You're not hoarding for the birds, you're hoarding for yourself and using the birds as an excuse.

I helped a neighbor downsize from 42 to 12 last spring by setting up a rotating cleaning schedule so the old ones didn't fill with mites. The trick is to keep only the spots that actually get used every season and donate the extras to a local nature center. Most people don't realize birds will ditch a house if the entrance hole faces the wrong way or gets too much sun.

Hold up, 50 birdhouses in just your yard AND the neighbors? That's wild dude. @sage308 mentioned that whole thing about birdhouses facing the wrong way or getting too much sun, and now I'm wondering how many of yours are actually usable versus just taking up space. I mean, I get the COVID hobby thing - we all needed something to do - but 50 feels like you're running a tiny bird metropolis without a zoning permit. Do you even have time to clean them all or do the birds just deal with the mites and hope for the best?
