I finally figured out why my tomato plants kept dying

For two summers in a row I planted tomatoes in the same corner of my backyard in Portland and they just wilted by July. Turns out I had blight in the soil from not rotating crops. I talked to a guy at the nursery on Powell who told me I needed to move them at least 20 feet away and add some compost. Has anyone else dealt with soil diseases killing their garden beds?

I had the same thing happen with my raised bed in southeast last year. Lost all six pepper plants to root rot before I figured out I was watering too often. A guy at the nursery on Division told me to test the soil pH and now I check it every spring. That compost trick the guy on Powell mentioned really does help, I mixed in some mushroom compost this March and everything is looking way better so far.

Right?? That soil pH thing is a game changer. Took me way too long to start testing mine too.
