My neighbor swore I'd kill my whole lawn if I laid sod in July, and now I owe him an apology
Put in 400 sq ft of Bermuda behind my shed in the middle of a heat wave. He kept telling me it was the dumbest thing he'd ever seen, said he watched his brother do the same thing in Tucson back in '09 and it all died in a month. I watered it twice a day for the first two weeks and that stuff rooted in 10 days. Only lost about 8 squares out of the whole pallet. So was he wrong, or did I just get lucky with my soil? Anyone here laid sod in the dead of summer and had it actually take?
Ha, hold on. Two weeks of watering twice a day in a heat wave is not luck, that's you basically running a nursery back there. Your neighbor's brother in Tucson probably watered once a day and called it good, then acted shocked when the sun cooked his roots. Bermuda loves heat, that's kind of its whole thing, mid summer is honestly prime time for it if you keep it wet. The eight lost squares tell the real story, that's normal shock, not a disaster. Give it another month and you'll be the one telling neighbors what they're doing wrong.
