Vent: that $450 pond liner tore before I even got it in the ground

Bought the 20-foot EPDM liner from the big box store in Austin last month, followed every video tutorial to the letter. Unrolled it on the grass, and a stray stick punched a hole right through it before I could even lay the underlayment. Got a refund but lost a whole weekend plus $60 in sand and fabric, tell me what actually works for a 10x12 pond base so I don't mess up attempt number two.

Ugh, I heard carpet padding under the liner works way better than sand and fabric.

@the_wendy gets it, carpet padding is the hidden gem for sure. Sand shifts around so much that your liner ends up with weird bumps and tears after a few weeks. Padding stays put, adds a little cushion, and honestly makes cleanup way less annoying.
