A landscaper told me my gravel was too deep and I was being stubborn about it
Had a guy come look at my patio project in Portland last spring and he said the 8 inches of crushed rock under my pavers was just wasted money and effort. I had watched like 5 YouTube videos that all said deeper is better for drainage. He showed me his 20 year old install with only 4 inches of base and zero settling. Now I save about 40 bucks per pallet of stone. Has anyone else found out they were overdoing a basic step for years?

My buddy in Seattle spent a whole weekend digging out 10 inches of base for his shed pad and a pro walked by and laughed saying 3 inches was plenty for that. He felt kinda dumb but the shed sits fine after five years now.

Idk, I gotta side with the pro on this one @the_diana. Five years is nothing for a shed, wait until you get a wet winter and that thing starts settling unevenly because the base wasn't deep enough. I mean, maybe your buddy got lucky, but 3 inches is usually plenty for a lightweight shed on solid ground, digging 10 inches is overkill unless you're on straight clay.
