Got told my paver patio was "too perfect" by an old landscaper in Tampa

I spent three whole weekends smoothing out every paver to be dead level and flush. This guy walks by, says looks like a parking lot and I should leave some "character" by tilting a few or mixing in reclaimed brick. At first I thought he was crazy but I went back and pulled up a few spots to add some old brick I found on Craigslist. Now it has that lived-in look he talked about even if my OCD still twitches at the uneven spots. Has anyone else gotten feedback that completely derailed your original plan?

Ngl, that's kind of funny because my buddy did almost the exact same thing with his driveway. He spent a month making it look like a showroom floor and his neighbor came over and told him it looked "soulless." He ended up leaving it as is but still jokes about it when people compliment the work.

A buddy of mine did something similar with his garage floor. He used that epoxy coating and it looked perfect for about a week until a lawnmower tire left a black mark that wouldn't come out. lol. The trick is to put a few layers of clear coat on top so you can actually scrub stuff off without ruining the finish. Otherwise you're just making a permanent display case for dirt.
