Hit 40 yards of gravel delivered and my driveway math was off by a third

I planned my backyard reno around 27 cubic yards of crushed stone for the path and patio base, but the truck showed up with 40 because I misread the depth calc on a slope I forgot about. Turns out that extra 13 yards meant I had to build a small retaining edge with spare pavers just to keep it from spilling into the flower beds. The driver laughed and said most folks undershoot by at least 20 percent, which made me feel a bit better honestly. It cost me an extra $180 for the second delivery fee and a long Saturday with a wheelbarrow, but the finished grade sits perfect now. Anyone else had their yardage estimate go sideways on a sloped lot, or is it just me and my dodgy math?
