My old method for dealing with moles vs what finally worked
For years I tried those sonic spikes you stick in the ground, probably spent $80 on them total. Nothing changed, the tunnels kept getting worse. Last spring I finally gave in and tried a scissor trap from the hardware store, cost me $12. Caught three moles in two weeks and the yard has been clean since. Has anyone else had good luck with traps over the electronic gadgets?

My neighbor actually spent like $200 on those ultrasonic spikes and still had moles tunneling right up to his patio. I went the cheap route too with a $10 scissor trap from the hardware store and caught four in about ten days. The trick is you have to find the active tunnel by stepping on it flat and then checking the next morning to see which one popped back up. Those electronic gadgets just don't work on stubborn moles that have been in the yard for years.

Your neighbor and I would get along great, I've thrown probably $300 at those spike things over the years and the moles just laughed at me. I finally gave up and tried the scissor trap method too, but I got so excited I tripped over my own feet and set the trap off on my thumb instead of a tunnel lol. That was a fun trip to urgent care, let me tell you. But yeah, once I actually read the instructions and didn't try to outsmart the thing, I caught three in a week. The trick about checking which tunnel pops back up is solid, it saves you from digging up half the yard for nothing.

Yeah I gotta disagree a little here @spencer782. Those ultrasonic spikes are junk, I'll give you that, but the scissor trap thing is hit or miss for me. I've caught maybe one mole with them and the rest just dug around it like it was a speed bump. What finally worked in my yard was flooding the tunnels with a garden hose for 20 minutes straight, then standing there with a shovel waiting for them to pop out. It's more work but I got four in one afternoon that way.
