Rant: my dead lawn corner finally came back after 8 weeks of doing almost nothing
I had a bald patch about 6 feet wide by the back fence where the dog runs, and it stayed dirt brown for two straight summers. Back in early April I dumped a bag of cheap topsoil on it, threw down some seed, and then basically ignored it except for watering every other morning before work. What actually made the difference was the $12 sprinkler I aimed right at that corner instead of the whole yard, so it got soaked while everything else stayed dry. Eight weeks later there's real grass there, thin in spots but green, and the dog has already started lying in it. Has anyone else had luck fixing dog-worn spots, or do I need to just give up and put pavers down?
Man, this hits home. My lab tore up a strip along the fence for two years and I kept throwing seed at the whole thing like an idiot. Finally just fenced off the spot with some cheap wire garden fence from the hardware store so the dog couldn't get at it, watered twice a day for three weeks, and that did it. Once the grass got tall enough to survive her running on it, I pulled the fence. Still have one little patch by the gate that stays bare no matter what, so I might do a small paver pad there and call it done.
