Was down in Phoenix last month helping my cousin look at houses and one place had a backyard patio made from those big concrete pavers, all of it from a ReStore for like $40. The guy laid them on sand over a weekend, no mortar, no base prep beyond a rake, and it looked good for 8 months until the first big rain hit and half of them shifted into a bowl shape. Half the people I talk to say that is just what you get with cheap materials, other half say he skipped the 4 inches of compacted gravel and that is the whole problem. I keep going back and forth on whether the cheap route is actually dumb or if we are all just overbuilding. Where do you all land on it, did anyone here do a sand set patio that actually survived 3 plus years?
