The $60 drainage fabric my builder said was optional came back to haunt me 14 months later
I skipped the fabric under my gravel path in Tampa because he told me it was just extra, and now weeds are pushing through every single seam and I've spent three weekends pulling them out, has anyone else regretted a cheap shortcut that took way longer to fix than the actual install?

The Tampa humidity is brutal on gravel paths though, so the weeds were probably coming up from below no matter what, unless you had a proper base layer underneath. Soil fabric just helps, it doesn't stop everything, and if it wasn't pinned down right at the seams, it'd shift and make gaps anyway. I'd say the builder wasn't entirely wrong that it's extra, but he should've warned you about the tradeoff, not just called it optional.
