Tried using old coffee grounds in my compost pile for the veggie patch and it turned into a weird, smelly mud pit

Was it just coffee grounds or did you mix in other stuff? I used to dump my old grounds straight in the garden too, and it always got slimy. Turns out coffee grounds are a green material, like grass clippings, so they need a ton of brown stuff to balance them out. I started mixing mine with shredded paper and dry leaves first, and it made a huge difference. No more mud pit smell, just normal compost.

Did you add too much at once?

Actually had great results with just coffee grounds and leaves.

Heard it needs a lot of dry brown stuff mixed in...
