Found out the goat scene in that 2006 horror flop was one real goat and one puppet, and now I defend it at parties
I was reading a behind the scenes thing on my phone at 11pm last Tuesday and it said the director blew almost $40,000 of the tiny budget on one animatronic goat that barely worked. So he just used a real goat for half the shots and nobody could tell which was which, and honestly that is more clever than most big budget stuff I see. My buddy Nate still calls it the worst movie ever made whenever it comes up at his place in Toledo, and I keep telling him he got tricked by a farm animal. Did anyone else know about the puppet, or am I the last one to find out?
Man, the puppet thing isn't even the wild part to me. What gets me is that people watched that movie for years and argued about which shots looked fake, and the whole time the "fake" looking ones were the real goat just standing there being a goat. That's the funniest part. A real animal can look faker than a robot because we're so used to bad CGI that our brains flag anything that moves weird as effects. So Nate probably pointed at the actual live goat and said "see, that's the dumb puppet" and felt real smart about it. The director basically got a free pass on his broken robot by letting a goat take the blame.
