Hot take: Speed 2 is a better comedy than most comedies
A guy at my office in Denver said last month that Speed 2: Cruise Control was the worst movie he ever paid to see, and I told him he watched it wrong. It is not a thriller at all, it is a 1997 movie where a cruise ship crashes into a island town and nobody acts like a real human, and once I stopped expecting tension I laughed for two hours. My question is whether a movie can be good on purpose versus good by accident, because I honestly cannot tell which one this is. Where do you all land on that?
Does it really matter if it's on purpose or by accident though? A movie that makes you laugh for two hours is doing something right, whether the director meant it or not. People get way too worked up over whether they're "supposed" to enjoy something.
