Rant: everyone calls Speed Racer (2008) a mess but that's the whole point
I watched it again at my buddy's place in Toledo after 2 beers and it finally clicked, the movie is supposed to look like a slot machine puking rainbows and that's not a flaw. The scene where the monkey does the thing with the wrench? Nobody ever brings up that the editing actually matches how a kid describes a race to you, all jumpy and loud and excited. Am I crazy for thinking the Wachowskis knew exactly what they were doing here?

There's a video essay I saw a while back where the guy breaks down how the transitions are literally meant to feel like flipping channels as a kid. Everything is bright and loud on purpose, like a sugar rush. You're not crazy, the whole thing is meant to put you inside a kid's brain watching a race.
