Bought a $40 espresso machine off Craigslist, ended up spending $120 on parts
The guy swore it just needed a descale but the boiler was cracked and I found out after ordering $50 worth of gaskets. Anyone else ever trust a stranger's 'minor fix' and get burned on a coffee setup?

Man that's the story of my life with anything used... you always end up finding out the real problem is way worse than what they told you. I've noticed people just naturally downplay how broken something is when they're trying to sell it, like it's some unwritten rule of Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. It's not even just coffee stuff either... I've seen it with cars, lawnmowers, you name it. The seller always says "just needs a simple part" but they never mention the water damage or the rust or the cracked frame that's gonna cost you three times what you paid. Honestly I think half the time they don't even know what's really wrong with it themselves, they just guess and hope someone else will take the risk.

A cracked boiler on a $40 machine? That's just cruel, especially after you already put in the work ordering parts. Sounds like the seller knew exactly how bad it was and just hoped you wouldn't notice until after you paid. These Craigslist coffee deals always seem to hide the worst surprises behind a "minor fix" story.
