Hit 500 days straight on my Duolingo streak and I still can't hold a conversation

I was so proud of that number until I tried talking to someone from Mexico last week and froze up completely. All those daily 5 minute lessons just made me good at tapping screens, not actually speaking the language. Did anyone else chase a streak and realize later you were just gaming the system instead of learning?

That 500 day streak thing is crazy, people just racking up numbers but not actually learning anything new. Ive seen guys in my trade do the same thing with certs, collect them like Pokemon cards but cant wire a basic outlet. Feel you on this one.
