Hot take: the tourists were right and the locals at the Grand Canyon were dead wrong
Everyone in the little town outside the park said skip Mather Point and go to some hidden overlook 40 minutes out, but honestly the view from the paved path with 200 strangers was better than the so called secret spot. Who else has ignored local advice somewhere and felt zero regret about it?
Man, I feel this. I once got told by a bartender in a mountain town to skip the main trail and hike some secret ridge, and the main trail was way better, so I get it. Sometimes the crowded, easy, obvious thing is obvious for a reason, and the "secret spot" is just a longer walk with worse views.
