I called my buddy's sound bath a waste of $40 until I fell asleep in 6 minutes flat
My friend Dana dragged me to a sound bath at a studio in Austin back in April, and I spent the whole drive there telling her it was a scam with extra steps. Forty bucks to lie on a floor while a stranger hits some bowls? I have thrown money at dumber stuff but this felt like the dumbest. The room smelled like a candle store and I almost walked out twice. Then this woman starts playing the bowls and I swear I was out cold in maybe 6 minutes, which never happens to me because my brain runs like a hamster wheel at night. I woke up 50 minutes later feeling like I had slept 8 hours, and I have gone back 5 times since. Now I am the guy telling everyone I know to try it, which is humbling. Has anyone else gotten hooked on something they spent years making fun of? What finally flipped you?
So you fell asleep for 50 minutes and now you've dropped like 240 bucks going back five times? I mean, idk, that just sounds like a really expensive nap to me. People pay good money for a lot of things that mostly just relax them, and a nap is a nap whether it costs 40 dollars or happens on your own couch for free. Maybe it's the lying down in a quiet dark room that does it, not the bowls. I'm not saying it doesn't work, but "I fell asleep" is a pretty low bar for a hook, you know?
