My grandpa admitted he voted for the wrong candidate in 1984 and I think about it every election
He said this at a family BBQ in Tucson last June, just shrugged and said 'everyone gets one free dumb vote,' and now I wonder if anyone else has a relative who owned up to a bad ballot like that?
A buddy of mine found out his mom voted for some third party guy in 1992 and she only fessed up like ten years ago. She said she just liked how he talked, didn't think it mattered in their state. He was so mad at first, then he realized she was right, it wouldn't have changed anything. Now it's their running joke every time a new race comes around. Your grandpa saying everyone gets one free dumb vote is honestly the best way to put it. That kind of honesty is rare, most folks just take that stuff to the grave.
