Overheard my nephew say vinyl is just 'old people's Spotify' and it hit different

I was at my sister's place last Saturday and my 16 year old nephew saw my crate of records in the corner. He asked why I bother with all that 'crackly noise' when I could just stream. I used to be the exact same way about CDs back in 2002, thought anyone buying tapes was stuck in the past. Now I'm the one defending a format that's objectively less convenient. What gets me is he's not wrong, but he's also not right, it's about the ritual of flipping a record and sitting through a whole side. Has anyone else made that full circle from mocking older tech to cherishing it?

There's something about knowing an album had to be good enough to press into plastic that the streaming world just lost. When you stream, you get 50 million songs at your fingertips but none of them feel like yours. A record forces you to make one choice and live with it for twenty minutes, and that's a skill we've let rust away. Your nephew will probably have this exact same moment in twenty years when his kid makes fun of his wireless earbuds, because that's just how the cycle goes.
