Serious question, the regulars at my local diner in Tulsa all swear by one bad take and I finally get why nobody pushes back
Sat at the counter at a diner off Route 66 in Tulsa last Tuesday and heard four different guys over 60 say the same thing: that you should never pay off your mortgage early because you lose the tax break. I used to think that was just old guy math, but then I ran the numbers on my own $180k loan and realized most of them barely itemize anyway, so the "break" is basically nothing. Is this one of those takes that just survives because saying it out loud at a diner counter feels safer than admitting you were wrong to your spouse?
