That time I tried the whole 'no shampoo' thing for 6 months straight

I jumped on the no poo trend back in 2019 when I was living in Austin. My hair got super greasy for like the first 8 weeks and I kept thinking it would balance out. I used baking soda and apple cider vinegar rinses like the blogs said and it stripped my hair so bad it felt like straw. After 6 months of this nonsense my scalp was flaky and itchy and my hair looked worse than when I started. I finally caved and bought a cheap bottle of drugstore shampoo and within two washes my hair was back to normal. What did I learn? That my hair just needs regular shampoo and not to believe every natural beauty hack I see online. Has anyone else tried something trendy like this and had it backfire completely?

My friend did that baking soda thing for like 4 months and ended up with dandruff that looked like snow on her shoulders. She even tried putting eggs in her hair thinking it would help and that just made it worse. It took her stylist two deep conditioning treatments to fix all the damage.

Stood in the grocery aisle for 10 minutes staring at baking soda and eggs last year thinking I was about to save so much money on shampoo. After seeing what happened to your friend I'm so glad I chickened out and just bought my regular stuff instead. The egg thing makes total sense too like who wants scrambled eggs cooking in their hair in the shower. I was all about natural remedies before but this definitely changed my mind about experimenting with kitchen ingredients on my scalp.
