Took me 45 minutes to re-fill a soap dispenser at a client's house

I was cleaning this big house over in Cherry Hill and their kitchen soap dispenser ran out. I spent 45 whole minutes trying to figure out how to open the stupid thing. It had this hidden latch under the base that you had to slide with a butter knife. Has anyone else run into a product that seemed simple but wasted way too much of your time?

Did you check if there was a manual online? I swear those "simple" designs are made by people who never actually use the stuff. Last month I had a similar issue with a laundry detergent cap that had some weird twist-and-press mechanism, took me like 20 minutes to get it open. The worst part was when I finally got it, the soap spilled everywhere because the latch was so tiny my fingers couldn't get a good grip.

i mean is it really that deep? like yeah ok the cap was annoying but 20 minutes and soap everywhere? seems a bit dramatic lol. some of these things you just gotta wiggle it and it pops right open, no need for a whole research project about it. bet you were rushing and just made it harder on yourself. worst case scenario you use a pair of scissors or something, no need to write a novel about a bottle of tide.

yeah idk, i was watching this video the other day about how some companies design packaging to be annoying on purpose because they think it makes it look fancy or whatever. 45 minutes is wild though, i've had bathroom soap pumps where you gotta twist the nozzle and pull at the same time and it still feels like youre gonna break it. probably wouldve just pried it open with a flathead screwdriver after 10 minutes tops.
