Used to swear by name brand spray foam insulation, but a failed garage project changed my tune

Last spring I insulated my detached garage with the expensive stuff from the big box store, thinking it was the only way to go. Three months later I noticed the seal was already cracking and letting in drafts, plus I had overspray everywhere. A buddy told me to try the generic contractor grade from a local supply place, and it cost me $40 less per can with way better adhesion. Has anyone else had luck switching to the cheap stuff or am I just getting lucky?

My neighbor had the same issue with his garage door seals last winter, tried three different brands before giving up and just using weatherstripping tape instead.

Totally seen this before with a few buddies who do their own builds. Heard from a contractor at the hardware store that the store brand stuff is just rebranded contractor grade half the time anyway. My brother in law had the exact same problem with the expensive cans cracking after a season. He switched to the cheap stuff from a local supplier and it's been solid for over a year now with no drafts. The price difference is wild too, definitely not just you getting lucky.
