Found out my 10 year old sourdough starter has a whole legal name and birth date in a Facebook group
I was scrolling a bread baking group last night and saw people posting these official looking certificates for their starters with names and dates. Apparently there's a whole trend where bakers register their starters like pets or something. Am I the only one who just calls theirs "the jar" and feeds it when it looks hungry?

My buddy named his starter after his ex-wife, which is weird because he feeds it every day and talks to it more than he ever talked to her. He even made a tiny sweater for the jar one winter and posted it online, got like 200 likes from complete strangers. Meanwhile my starter lives in a repurposed pickle jar with a rubber band holding a paper towel on top, no name, no birthday, just flour and water doing its thing. Sometimes I forget about it for three days and it looks at me like I'm a terrible parent when I finally open the fridge. Different worlds I guess.
