My sourdough starter finally doubled in volume after 11 days of looking like pancake batter, and my whole kitchen smelled like victory.
I kept it in the oven with just the light on, following a tip from a baker in Seattle, and now I'm wondering if anyone else has a weird spot that works for their starter (like a garage shelf or a closet).

Congrats on the starter finally waking up. That oven light trick is a lifesaver in a cold house. Mine lives on top of the fridge, the constant gentle warmth from the motor seems perfect. It's the only spot where it doesn't sulk for days. Finding that sweet spot feels like half the battle.

So you keep yours on the fridge too, @janah83? I read this whole thing once about how the ideal proofing temp is basically just "slightly warm to the touch," which is exactly what those spots give you. It's funny how we all end up finding these weird little warm zones in our houses just to keep the starter happy. My friend swears by putting hers in the microwave with the door closed but not turned on, just to block drafts. That oven light trick is solid, it's like a tiny proofing box for free.

The top of the router works wonders, too.
