Spent $300 on a fancy Dutch oven for bread baking and it was a Complete waste of money
My $30 thrift store pot actually holds heat better than that Le Creuset copy I bought online, now I'm back to using the cheap one and my crusts are way better - anyone else regret splurging on gear that didn't help?

Wait, you spent THREE HUNDRED dollars on a pot and it's worse than a thirty dollar thrift store find? That's wild. My jaw literally dropped when I read that. @karenh56 said heat retention is about preheating right, but at that price point you'd think the pot would just work no matter what you do. I bought a fancy enameled one for sixty bucks and the coating chipped after two months, so now I'm back to a plain old cast iron I got at a garage sale. Same thing with my starter - it bubbles better in a cracked ceramic bowl than it ever did in that expensive glass jar I bought online.

Heat retention in a pot actually depends more on whether it's preheated right than the brand name.

Man, that's rough, I once bought a fancy pro spatula and went back to using my old wooden spoon from my grandma's kitchen.
