My attempt at a birthday cake for my niece turned into a leaning tower of frosting
So I was making a three layer chocolate cake for my niece's 8th birthday party in my kitchen last Saturday. I baked the layers the night before, which was my first mistake because I didn't let them cool all the way before I wrapped them. The next morning, I started stacking and the whole thing just started to lean to one side, like a real life Pisa situation. I tried to hold it up with my hands while I slapped on the buttercream, which just made it worse and got frosting all over my arms. In a panic, I shoved three wooden skewers down the middle to try and pin it together. It sort of worked, but you could still see the tilt. I just covered the whole mess in sprinkles and hoped the kids wouldn't notice. Has anyone else had a cake start to slide on them, and what's your go-to fix when it happens mid-decorating?

Honestly, it's just cake... it gets eaten in five minutes anyway. The skewers were a solid move, and @wyatt_mitchell26 is right that straws have their limits. A little tilt gives it character, and kids only care about the sugar.

Stick a straw down the middle next time, it holds everything straight without showing.
