My chocolate chip cookies went from flat puddles to perfect puffs after I started chilling the dough for a full day.

What temperature do you bake them at?

Is the oven even on when you skip the chill step?

I actually tried skipping the chill step once with a 24-hour recipe @jennifer833 and the cookies spread way too much, so I think the oven does care about that time in the fridge. The butter just melts faster without it, idk maybe it's just my kitchen running hot or something.

Chilling dough that long is a total waste of time. Most recipes work fine with just an hour in the fridge. That overnight wait is just for people who want to feel fancy about baking.
