My sourdough starter took 14 days to bubble after I forgot it needed rye flour from the start.

Has anyone else had a starter that just refused to get going until you switched flours?

Totally, mine was a dud until I swapped to bread flour!

My starter was completely flat for five days straight. I was ready to toss it, but then I fed it with some rye flour I had in the back of the pantry. It doubled in size overnight. That rye just gave it a kick it really needed.

Wow, that's such a relief you didn't toss it! I've been there, staring at a sad, flat jar and feeling so defeated (it's the worst). Rye is like a magic trick for sleepy starters, I swear. It's awesome that a forgotten bag of flour saved the whole thing.

Oh man, mine was dead for a week until I tried whole wheat!
