Rant: The sourdough that felt like a brick at 6 AM

I got up early last Saturday to feed my starter and bake a loaf before my wife woke up. Everything went fine until I forgot to score the top, and it burst open in the oven, making this ugly crack right down the middle. The crumb inside was actually decent, but the shape looked like a failed science project and it took 45 minutes to slice through the crust. I ended up turning half of it into breadcrumbs for meatloaf and the other half into croutons. Has anyone else had a loaf that tasted fine but looked terrible, and what do you do with the ugly ones?

Ever notice how most good things in life come out a little rough around the edges, like that loaf? Ugly bread still feeds you, just like ugly moments still teach you something.
