Showerthought: Adjusting a passed-down recipe used to be a no-go

Years ago, messing with a trusted recipe felt like breaking a rule. Now, with so many diet needs, I tweak them to prevent fails, like using applesauce instead of oil last month for a friend.

Did the applesauce swap work out, or did it make things too dense? I had to learn the hard way that when you add extra wet stuff like that, you gotta cut back on other liquids or add a bit more flour to balance it.

What happened to my friend when she tried that swap? Her banana bread turned out like a brick because she used the full amount of butter too.

I mean it's like that with so many things, you gotta find the right balance.
