That week my pie crusts kept cracking no matter what I did
Last Tuesday I tried making a double crust apple pie for my neighbor's birthday. First batch of dough crumbled into pieces when I rolled it out, had to scrap it. Second time I added extra water and the dough turned into a sticky mess that tore when I lifted it. Third attempt I chilled everything for 2 hours and it still cracked at the edges. I finally gave up and made a cobbler instead which turned out fine. Has anyone else had a stretch where pie crust just refused to cooperate?

Isn't it funny how baking can turn a simple task into a full on wrestling match with dough? I had a week like that with cookies once, where every batch spread out into one giant flat disc no matter how cold the dough was. I ended up eating the crispy mess with a spoon and calling it "cookie brittle" just to feel better about it. Sometimes you just have to accept that the kitchen has declared war on you and surrender with a cobbler.

Honestly, "surrender with a cobbler" is my new life motto. Ngl, I had basically the exact same thing happen with a batch of sugar cookies last month. I chilled the dough for like four hours, followed the recipe to the letter, and they still turned into one massive, greasy disk on the pan. I just scraped it into a bowl, crumbled it over some vanilla ice cream, and called it a "deconstructed cookie sundae." At that point you just have to laugh or you'll cry into the flour. Tbh, I think the oven in my apartment has a personal vendetta against anything that needs to hold its shape. "Cookie brittle" sounds way better than admitting defeat, honestly.

Take a step back and realize this is just life's way of testing your ability to roll with the punches. Honestly, it happens everywhere, not just in the kitchen. Like I tried to fix a squeaky door hinge last week with WD-40 and it just made it louder and now it sounds like a haunted house prop every time I go to the bathroom. Or how my phone charger only works if I hold it at a very specific angle. You put in all this effort to fix something simple and it just backfires in your face. So yeah, surrender with a cobbler isn't just for baking. It's a whole mindset for dealing with the universe's sense of humor.
