Tried freezing my butter before grating it for pie crust and it was a game changer

I have always struggled with getting a flaky pie crust. They always came out tough or greasy. Saw a tip online about freezing the butter sticks solid and then grating them into the flour with a box grater. Tried it last Sunday on a chicken pot pie. Crust came out perfect, flaky layers and everything. Didnt even need a pastry cutter. Has anyone else tried this or got another trick for pie dough?

Grab a bench scraper next time, works way better than trying to lift wax paper. Trust me, I've mopped up plenty of butter myself.

My neighbor tried this and ended up with butter shavings all over her kitchen floor. Dog had a field day with it. She still says the crust was the best she ever made though.

Oh man, did you try grating it straight into the flour bowl? I found if you grate it over a piece of wax paper first then dump it in, way less mess and the butter stays cold longer.
