Visited a bakery in Portland that sells 'ugly' but perfect pastries for half price. Is this a win for reducing waste or a fail for normalizing lower standards?

Yeah "lower standards for a crooked croissant" is a wild take lol. I grabbed some wonky donuts from a place like that and they were amazing. It's just smart, not cheap.

Lower standards" for a crooked croissant? That's a funny way to say you're getting the same tasty thing for less money. It's a total win if it keeps good food from the trash.

Actually means less waste, not lower quality.

Exactly, it's not about lower standards at all. The taste and safety are the same, it just looks a little different. Calling it a lower standard misses the whole point of fighting waste. They're saving perfectly good food, and we get a deal. That's a higher standard for the planet, not a lower one for the pastry.
