Finally got my bank to stop holding my paycheck for 5 whole days
Every payday my direct deposit would show up in my account but the money stayed 'pending' and I couldn't touch it for almost a week. I called support twice and got nowhere, so I walked into the branch on Grand Ave in St. Paul and asked them to check if my employer was sending some wrong code with the deposit. Turns out payroll was using an old routing setup from a job I left two years ago, and once HR fixed it my last check cleared the same morning it landed. Three calls and a branch visit to fix one number feels silly, but seeing that money actually available on Friday was worth it. Has anyone else had a direct deposit that showed up but never really cleared?

That part about "showed up but never really cleared" is so real, it drives you crazy staring at money you can't use. I had the same thing happen and it turned out to be a mismatch between the name on my account and the name payroll had on file, like a middle initial thing. What fixed it for me was asking my bank for the exact details they were getting on their end, then I took that printout straight to HR instead of guessing. Once both sides matched, my deposit cleared the same day too. Good on you for going into the branch, phone support just reads a script and you never get anywhere.
