Found out my bank charges $35 for a wire transfer and $0 for the same thing if I call it something else
I was moving $800 to my brother for a used truck and the teller told me a regular wire is $35 but a "bank check" mailed to him costs nothing. Took 3 days instead of same day but I saved $35 and learned banks basically charge you for speed. Anyone else find weird loopholes like this or is my bank just making up rules as it goes?
Ran into the same thing last year when I sold my old motorcycle. My credit union wanted $25 to send the money same day, but the lady at the counter said if I just did a normal transfer to his account it was free and would land in two business days. The guy lived three hours away so the wait was nothing, and I kept my $25. Banks are 100% charging you for speed and nothing else.
