Helped a 72 year old lady set up mobile banking at my branch yesterday
She came in with a flip phone and a pile of paper bills, scared she was gonna mess up her payments. I sat with her for 45 minutes showing her how the app works on her new smartphone, and she actually started crying when she sent her first digital payment. Has anyone else had a moment with a customer that made you rethink how hard this stuff is for some people?

Had this older dude come into the store last month with his flip phone asking if we could "fix the internet on it." I had to break it to him that his phone couldn't even get online. Spent a good hour helping him pick out a cheap smartphone and walking him through the basics of texting and checking email. When he finally sent his first text to his daughter he looked at me like I'd just handed him a winning lottery ticket. Really hits you how scary all this tech stuff is when you didn't grow up with it.

@miles_burns makes me wonder how many people that age just gave up on connecting with their families cause nobody took the time.

My neighbor Mrs. Patterson, 78 years old, showed up at my door last spring with a brand new iPhone her son had mailed her still in the box. She was almost in tears because she couldn't even figure out how to turn it on. I sat with her on her porch for like two hours, showed her how to swipe, how to answer a call, how to take a photo of her cat. @miles_burns that look you're talking about, I got that exact same look when she finally called her granddaughter on FaceTime and the kid's face popped up on the screen. She just kept saying "oh my god" over and over like it was magic, and honestly for her it kind of was.
