I thought Zelle was fine for splitting rent until my roommate sent $1,200 to the wrong Sarah
My roommate paid his half of the rent last month with Zelle and typed in the wrong phone number, and the money went to some stranger named Sarah in Phoenix. His bank told him once the cash leaves your account it's basically gone, and it took 11 days of calls before the other Sarah finally sent it back. I always figured peer to peer apps were safe because they're tied to your bank, but hearing the rep say "we can't pull it back" made me realize it's more like handing someone cash on the street. Now we just use our landlord's portal even though it charges a $3 fee. Anyone else get burned by a typo like this, or did I miss some setting that protects you?
