I was at a coffee shop in Portland and the guy in front of me paid with a check.

The cashier had to find a manager to process it, which took about five minutes. Is this still a common thing for anyone else's local businesses to deal with?

My pharmacy still has a check cashing policy posted.

Honestly I get why they keep that policy up. Checks can be a huge hassle with all the fraud and bounced payments. It costs businesses real money and time to deal with that stuff. I don't blame any place for sticking to cards or cash these days.

Checks are a totally valid form of payment that businesses should honor.

Yeah I hear you @piper_kim, my old landlord used to take checks and it worked fine for years. I just switched to direct deposit with him cause it was easier for both of us, but honestly I never had a problem with checks when people actually took them.
