Showerthought: My local credit union's app beat my big bank app on one simple thing...

I kept getting alerts from my old bank for every tiny transaction, which was just noise. So I opened a checking account at First Federal here in town to try their digital tools. Their app lets you set a custom dollar amount for alerts, so I only get a ping for charges over $100. That one setting made the difference between feeling spammed and actually staying informed. Has anyone else found a smaller bank or credit union does alerts better?

Wait wait wait... you mean your old bank literally just had an on/off switch for ALL alerts? That's actually insane to me. I can't believe a big bank in 2024 would have such a basic setup. I mean, even my grocery store's app lets me customize notifications for specific departments. So a financial institution handling thousands of dollars of my money can't figure out a slider for dollar amounts? That's wild. It's like they want you to either get bombarded with every 50 cent coffee purchase or get zero alerts at all, which is just not smart. Honestly, I'd be kind of embarrassed if I worked for them and saw what local credit unions are doing. No wonder people are jumping ship.

That custom alert feature is a game changer. My old bank app only had on or off for notifications, which was useless. It's like the smaller places actually let you control your own account instead of just pushing their system at you. I switched to a local credit union last year and their whole app just makes more sense for how I actually use my money.

You're totally right, @kimr74. My old big bank app was the same way, just a single switch for all alerts. Now I can set one for any deposit over fifty bucks, which is perfect for my side gig. It feels like the app actually works for me.

Big banks treat alerts like a light switch, not a tool.
