Spent 45 minutes chasing a bounced check fee because the bank app showed the deposit as available

The teller told me it was my fault for not reading the fine print, but why show a balance you can't actually touch without some hidden 3 day hold that wasn't listed anywhere in the transaction history?

Honestly, I get why you're frustrated, but I gotta push back a little on this one. Banks are shady with their fine print, but that available balance is more like a heads up that the check cleared the other bank, not that you can spend the cash right away. I learned the hard way a few years back when I was short on a supply run because I assumed the same thing. It's a pain, but that "available" usually means it's on its way to posting, not that it's actually yours to touch.

Right there with you, I once bought concert tickets with an "available" balance and got hit with an overdraft fee so bad I could hear my wallet crying for weeks. Learned that lesson real fast, about as fast as my bank took to slap me with those fees.

Exactly, banks use "available" like it means something it doesn't.
