TIL my bank holds debit card charges for 3 days if you shop at a gas station, and I'm out $214 because of it
I paid $214 at a Shell on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie last Thursday and the money left my checking right away, but the actual charge sat in pending until Sunday. So when my rent auto pay hit Friday morning, it bounced and I got a $35 fee for money I already spent. Turns out a lot of banks treat gas station swipes as pre auth holds longer than normal stores, and nobody warns you. Does anyone know which banks don't pull this crap, or am I just stuck watching my balance like a hawk now?
