Why does nobody talk about how checks still mess up direct deposit?
I set up a new account at my credit union in Tacoma last month, and the teller told me to just bring in a voided check for payroll. I did, but my first paycheck still went to my old bank. Turns out the routing number on the check was for paper checks only, not electronic transfers. It took three calls to sort out. Has anyone else run into this weird split between paper and electronic routing info?

Ugh, that's so annoying... did you get the right number from their deposit slip or online banking instead?

Classic bank nonsense right there.

I used to be the guy who said "it's fine, it's just a check" until my last paycheck got held for 5 days because of the exact same routing number issue. Totally changed my mind, that crap is way more annoying than I ever gave it credit for.

Was the teller new or just not trained right? That routing number mess is a known problem with some smaller banks and credit unions. They really should warn people when they ask for a check. It causes so much needless hassle and delays your money. The whole system feels stuck in the past because of stuff like this.
