My offset smoker door seal lasted exactly 2 cooks before it peeled off

I got a new gasket kit from a BBQ supply place in Kansas City, spent a whole Saturday cleaning the door frame with acetone. Followed the instructions to the letter, let it cure for 24 hours. First cook went fine, second cook I opened the door and half the seal came off with it. Now I'm back to using a rolled up towel to block the gap. Anyone else have a gasket that just wouldn't stick?

You used to believe @allen.kai was right about prep work being everything? Me too, until my third gasket did the same thing. Maybe the new adhesives just don't hold like they used to, I don't know.

Blame the install not the gasket. You probably didnt get that door clean enough or that acetone was old or something. Ive put those sticky gaskets on smokers for years and never had one peel off unless I rushed the prep work or used cheap silicone. That 24 hour cure time isnt a suggestion its a requirement but you also gotta make sure the surface is bare metal not paint or rust. The rolled up towel thing is just gonna soak up grease and cause a fire hazard too so maybe try again but sand down the frame first and use a high temp rated gasket with good adhesive.
