Our pit room's new shift handoff sheet saved us from overcooked pork

We used to lose track of when meats went on the smoker between shifts. Now we jot down times and temps on a clipboard by the door. What do you guys use to pass info to the next crew?

What do you do when a new guy forgets to write something down? Our biggest issue was getting everyone to actually use the board. Had to make it super simple, just time, temp, and meat. Still mess it up sometimes.

We had a guy at my last job who would take a picture of the smoker temp probe with his phone and text it to the group chat at shift change. It was a backup for the paper log. The photo had a timestamp and showed the exact temp, so there was no arguing about what was written down. It saved our butts more than once when the clipboard got greasy or someone's handwriting was trash.

Forget the board, go digital. Set up a cheap tablet on a stand with a shared note app. Every shift logs in and types the time, temp, and cut right there. It's searchable, the handwriting problem is gone, and you can't lose it to grease. We even set ours to auto-sync so the manager can check temps from home. Took a week for the old guys to get used to it, but now they love it.

Heard about a kitchen that lost their paper log during a rush.
