That $40 heat gun nearly sent my brisket to the ER last Saturday
I was rushing to crisp up the bark before guests showed at 6pm in Austin, so I grabbed my old heat gun to hit the flat directly. Last Saturday it backfired, blew a burst of burning dust into my face, and I dropped the whole 12lb packer in the gravel. Anyone else ever try a shortcut with a torch or heat gun and instantly regret it?

That dust buildup is probably why the thing backfired on you.

Wait, was the heat gun still running when you dropped the brisket? I mean, did you kill the power before you went after the meat or did you just leave it screaming on the ground while you checked for burns? Because that dust fire could've spread if the gun kept blowing hot air on dry grass or gravel. You're lucky it only got your face and not your whole garage. And what did you do with the packer after you picked it up, did you rinse it off or just scrape the rocks off and throw it in the smoker anyway? Asking cause I've seen guys do way worse things with a dropped brisket and still serve it.
