The week I cooked 4 briskets for a family reunion and my offset smoker decided to act up right before the guests showed up

I had to wrestle a grease fire out of the firebox while my uncle kept asking if the meat was done yet, and somehow the brisket still turned out decent but I nearly lost my temper; has anyone else had a smoker fail at the worst possible moment?

Man that sounds like a classic case of stuff breaking at the worst time. It seems like in life, the more pressure you're under the more likely things will go sideways. Appliances and cars know when you have a deadline or guests coming, they just pick that moment to fall apart. I've had my pellet grill lock up on the Fourth of July and had to finish ribs in the oven, and it's like the universe is testing how calm you can stay.

@avery219 my neighbor's dishwasher flooded right before Thanksgiving dinner last year, so I know exactly what you mean.
