Dropped $260 on a used chest freezer for my grandpa's deer, and now I can't remember why we ever did it any other way
We process about 4 deer a season on my uncle's place outside Kalispell. The freezer paid for itself the first year because we stopped paying the locker $85 a deer. Grandpa is 84 and he still cuts every backstrap himself, so keeping the meat cold right away matters. What did you all pay for your setup, and did it hold up after 5 years?
$85 a deer at the locker sounds cheap once you figure in the gas for the extra trips and a freezer that dies in year six. My neighbor's $200 Craigslist unit quit after two seasons and he lost a whole hind quarter, so the math isn't as clean as it looks.
